Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher to join our performing arts to cover a maternity leave. This role can be matched to suit the successful candidate with either majority music or drama teaching. We also have the opportunity to appoint to Curriculum Leader for the Performing Arts which include music, drama and dance. This is an exciting time join the school. We have a secure operational plan and risk assessment that retains a broad and balanced curriculum for all students and we want to find ways to maximise opportunities for live performance.

The school is rated as good by Ofsted, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic teacher to help us move towards outstanding. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly and hardworking teaching staff, which is always looking to improve. We provide a wide range of professional development opportunities and work hard to support colleagues becoming the very best teachers.

We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school and classroom behaviour is exceptional – allowing teachers to focus on providing high quality learning opportunities. The pastoral and senior teams ensure that any low level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively, giving teachers the chance to spend their work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximise progress.

We have developed new ways to assess progress and feedback to pupils; as a school and department we are putting more time into planning and differentiation and turning our backs on hours of written marking. Delivering live marking and impact marking strategies allows us to know exactly what our students need to do to progress and target appropriate work to deliver outstanding lessons.

We welcome applicants who are excited by challenge and those who aspire to leadership in the future, including NQTs. Our support and development of those new to teaching is second to none.

In place of academy based interviews, we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are still available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try to accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.
